Perspectives for the future of the whole family
Label STEP and its licensees do not tolerate any form of abusive child labour. We only approve of children’s help within families if they learn a craft by doing so and are not kept from pursuing basic education at school.
Bitter poverty is frequently the cause for abusive child labour. Fair trade is an important tool in fighting poverty. If adults can secure living for themselves and their families, children do not need to work and can instead attend school.
Label STEP has the best prospects of carpet workers’ children at heart. This is why, in association with licensees and producers, Label STEP organises education and training projects for these children and adolescents.
