Working conditions
The Label STEP-code of conduct signed by all licensees is based on the internationally recognized standards and agreements of the International Labour Organization (ILO), the UN and other internationally agreed standards regulating the working conditions in the production process.
The central ILO-standards are:
Voluntary engagement (ILO-Convention 29 and 105): No forced or compulsory labour, no slavery.
No discrimination (ILO-Convention 100 and 111): Equal opportunity and equal treatment for everybody irrespective of race, colour, sex, religion, political opinion, nationality or social origin.
No abusive child labour (ILO-Convention 138 and 182): Minimum age for wage labour is after completion of compulsory schooling in the respective country and in any case not less than 15 years.
Freedom of organization (ILO-Convention 87 / 98 / 135 and Recommendation 143): Right of all workers to freedom of organization, the right to organize in trade unions and to collective bargaining.
It is also compulsory to guarantee a safe workplace and to support the highest possible safety standards with regard to health and safety at work. Any physical abuse, threat of physical abuse, sexual and other harassment and intimidation through the employer are forbidden.
Working hours are to be fixed in accord with the current national and international (ILO) laws and standards. Excessive working hours must be prevented and one day off per week must be guaranteed.
