Established in 1988 by Carol Sebert and Donna Hastings, Creative Matters Inc. designs and manufactures original rugs and floor coverings. Their international clientele ranges from such high-end retailers as Gucci, Tom Ford and Louis Vuitton to hotels, corporate offices and Canadian diplomatic residences and embassies. Creative Matters' collections are made in Nepal, where centuries of traditional craftsmanship and artistry results in carpets of luxurious quality. The finest hand-spun Tibetan wool, silk, hemp, nettle or flax are skillfully constructed in varying pile heights with different knot counts. Geba has been synonymous with the idea “Avant-garde meets Tradition” for almost 20 years. Since his youth, Harald Geba has shared his enthusiasm for modern art with his interest in carpets. Orient and Occident meet in his designs, which are always timeless, yet modern. Since 2003 Geba has been producing his rugs in two Ateliers in Nepal, where hand- carded and hand-spun wool from the Tibetan highlands is knotted into exclusive carpets according to age-old tradition. You can be cool while still keeping your feet warm! With his modern designs, Jan Kath (37) is creating a completely new perspective on carpets. Guided by a bold approach to his work, Kath, who is from Bochum, combines classical elements of oriental carpets with contemporary, minimalist design. He consciously breaks with customary ways of seeing and throws strict rules of composition overboard. The company, founded in May 1985 in Frankfurt, creates exclusive design carpets and is a specialist for customized products. Since winter 2006 MAKALU DESIGN has complemented the entire range of the PAULIG Group with its exclusive design carpets.

Painting patterns, some people may think, is what constitutes a carpet designer’s job. But there is so much more to it. The interaction of idea, material, colour, technique and usage has to fit perfectly if a good looking and high quality carpet is to become reality. Naturally creativity comes first, but this is always accompanied by optimal production and economic factors, as well as monitoring of social developments. With her knowhow the chief designer Petra Both is responsible for aesthetics and techniques at Makalu.
