Mischioff becomes new Label STEP partner for fair carpet trade

The Zurich company Mischioff is a new Label STEP licensee and by this commits to fair trade and to the comprehensive engagement for good working and living conditions in carpet production. Not only does the Swiss traditional enterprise look back at a long history in the import of high-quality oriental carpets, it has also established itself in the international creative scene as one of the leading brands for modern design carpets.
Basel, 06 December 2010. Label STEP, the Max Havelaar Foundation (Switzerland) label for fair trade with handmade carpets gladly welcomes Mischioff as its newest licensee. As a Label STEP partner, Mischioff advocates good working and living conditions for the carpet workers, pays its suppliers and producers fair prices ensuring fair wages, tolerates no abusive child labour, promotes ecologically friendly production methods and approves independent controls in the production sites.
For Mischioff the partnership with Label STEP is a logical step in line with the company philosophy. "Through the partnership with Label STEP we would like to show that only the optimal cooperation of exclusive design and production – which include good working conditions likewise – lead to the high value of our carpets", as Sasha Mischioff explains the engagement of his company which he leads together with his brother Dani Mischioff.
As an organisation with its head office in Switzerland, Label STEP is particularly glad about the new licensee: "With the Zurich traditional enterprise we have found not only a new partner who offers high-quality handmade carpets since decades. Mischioff also always moves in the pulse of the time and is not only in Switzerland, but worldwide known as one of the leading suppliers of contemporary design carpets", says Reto Aschwanden from Label STEP.
Most top designers of the carpet scene are based in Germany, England or the USA. Mischioff decisively contributes to the fact that Zurich also takes a prominent spot on the world map of contemporary carpet design. "Zurich is the site of our creative work, as well as the place where our customers from all over the world appreciate the special Swiss hospitality", as Sasha Mischioff confesses to Switzerland as a location.
The Mischioff carpets are produced in leading manufactures in India and Nepal. The craftsmanship of centuries enters a creative symbiosis with contemporary Swiss design. “Our inspirational sources are modern art, contemporary design and fashion“ says Dani Mischioff. All Mischioff carpets are hand-knotted from 100% natural raw materials – "Timeless designs in conjunction with high-quality materials will be tomorrow's classics", according to designer Dani Mischioff 's appraisal of the Nemoh Collection concept.
Like the Nemoh Collection, the Manshu Collection is also made in India. And these carpet creations also draw their charm from the clever combination of design tradition and innovation; "classics of textile design combined in one carpet, these are our unique patchworks“, says Dani Mischioff about his Manshu collection which is exceedingly successful on the international market. And Mischioff also produces carpets in Nepal. The carpet series from Kathmandu is aptly called Himal and probably is the most complex Mischioff collection with regards to design and manufacturing. The Himal Collection brings together inspirations from nature and art to a harmonious unity.
The newest creation by the Mischioff brothers is the Refreshed Collection. Select pieces from the rich Mischioff fund are newly dyed. Bright, fresh colours and interesting new textures distinguish this carpet collection. The refining with high-quality colours takes place in Switzerland.
