Vous pouvez être cool sans avoir froid aux pieds ! Jan Kath (37) ouvre, avec ses motifs modernes, une toute nouvelle perspective pour le tapis. Sans appriori, l‘artiste, originaire de Bochum, combine les éléments traditionnels du tapis oriental à un design contemporain et minimaliste. Il casse de manière ciblée les anciennes habitudes de perception et jette par dessus bord les règles strictes de conception. Geba has been synonymous with the idea “Avant-garde meets Tradition” for almost 20 years. Since his youth, Harald Geba has shared his enthusiasm for modern art with his interest in carpets. Orient and Occident meet in his designs, which are always timeless, yet modern. Since 2003 Geba has been producing his rugs in two Ateliers in Nepal, where hand- carded and hand-spun wool from the Tibetan highlands is knotted into exclusive carpets according to age-old tradition. The company, founded in May 1985 in Frankfurt, creates exclusive design carpets and is a specialist for customized products. Since winter 2006 MAKALU DESIGN has complemented the entire range of the PAULIG Group with its exclusive design carpets.
Painting patterns, some people may think, is what constitutes a carpet designer’s job. But there is so much more to it. The interaction of idea, material, colour, technique and usage has to fit perfectly if a good looking and high quality carpet is to become reality. Naturally creativity comes first, but this is always accompanied by optimal production and economic factors, as well as monitoring of social developments. With her knowhow the chief designer Petra Both is responsible for aesthetics and techniques at Makalu.
